BOTOX® is a prescription medicine that is injected to prevent headaches in adults with chronic migraine who have 15 or more days each month with headache lasting 4 or more hours each day in people 18 years or older. BOTOX® has been shown to prevent 8-9 headache days a month at 24 weeks on average.
BOTOX®, Botulinium toxin, can be used to prevent migraine by blocking the release of a neurotransmitter in muscle cells blocking the pain response.
The procedure takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It is repeated every 12 weeks and typically takes 2-3 treatments before any effects are seen.
BOTOX® is covered by most insurances for chronic migraine headaches. A BOTOX® savings card can be issued for additional charges not covered by insurance.
